SYOSSET SOCCER CLUB TRAVEL PROGRAM

The Syosset Soccer Club (SSC) Travel Program exists to foster the development of its members to their highest competitive level, while encouraging teamwork, physical fitness and sportsmanship.  The program is directed by our Head Coach, Declan McSheffrey, and overseen by the VP of Travel and the SSC Board.  Our teams are selected, coached and trained by professionals.
Declan McSheffrey supervises all of our professional soccer coaches to insure quality training.

Commitment

Playing on a travel team requires a large commitment of time from both the players and the coaches.  Players are expected to put their travel team obligations first over other commitments.  There are 2 seasons of travel play, one in the fall and one in the spring through the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL).  Typically, each team plays 9 games in the fall and 9 in the spring.  In addition, each team plays in a minimum of 3 tournaments including either Labor Day or the prior weekend, Columbus Day, an Indoor Winter tournament and/or Memorial Day.  Often, the team travels to a tournament on Memorial Day within driving distance.  Practices are held twice weekly with the days determined based upon the availability of the majority of the players and, of course, the coach’s schedule. Weekly games are played on Saturdays for the first 4 years, and then switch to Sundays. In the winter, 8 indoor practices are held, with the day determined by facility availability.  In addition, two single elimination tournaments, the Waldbaum’s Cup (spring) and the State Cup (fall and/or spring) are also played.  Beginning with this year, LIJSL will not have the U10’s play in the state cup.

Financial Obligations

Each travel team covers their own costs, which include the Coach’s compensation.  This compensation is capped at $800 per child for the U10 and U11 teams. In addition, the expense of tournament entry fees, travel fees for the Coach and the individual player, indoor training space, Waldbaum’s and State Cup referee fees and the Club travel team uniform (approximately $100) are also required.  Team warm-ups and bags are optional.

Travel Tryouts

All tryouts are held at Stillwell Fields, unless noted otherwise.  Players should wear a white shirt and come prepared to play, with shin guards, cleats a soccer ball and a drink.
In order to be eligible to play on a Syosset travel team, you must attend 1 out of 2 tryouts for ages U11 and older.  For the U10 age group, you must attend 2 out of 4 tryouts.  You are encouraged to attend as many of the tryouts as possible.
